Most Matches Played at Single Tournament
At the top of the Open Era list for Most Matches Played at a Single Tournament now stands Novak Djokovic, who has reached 121 matches at Roland Garros. That is the new ceiling for the category and the clearest sign of how long Djokovic has kept returning to Paris at the highest level.
Behind him comes Roger Federer at Wimbledon, with 119 matches played and a 105-14 record at the All England Club. Federerβs Wimbledon total had been the long-standing reference point for this record, built across 8 titles, 12 finals, and appearances from his debut in 1999 through his final Grand Slam match in 2021, while he also reached 117 matches played at the Australian Open.
The rest of the top tier is made up of the sportβs other great single-event endurance marks: Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros with 116 matches and a staggering 112-4 record,
Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon with 115 matches, and
Jimmy Connors at the US Open with 115 matches and a 98-17 record from 1970 to 1992. Djokovic also sits in the same range at the Australian Open, where he has played 115 matches.
A separate non-Slam ATP reference point is Roger Federer again at Basel, where he owns the highest match total at a regular ATP Tour event outside the majors, with 84 matches played at the Swiss Indoors and a record 10 titles at his hometown tournament. In this record, the milestone is not simply winning the most matches, but repeatedly returning to the same event and adding up matches played across eras:
Novak Djokovic now sets the ceiling at Roland Garros with 121, Federerβs Wimbledon benchmark still stands at 119, and Nadal, Connors and Djokovic all remain part of the same all-time conversation across the majors.
