At the top of the Open Era list for most ATP singles finals reached stands Jimmy Connors, with 165 career finals, the highest total ever recorded on the menโs tour. Connors reached his first finals in 1971 at Columbus against
Tom Gorman and at Los Angeles against
Pancho Gonzales, before closing his finals record with his 165th final at Tel Aviv 1989, where he faced
Gilad Bloom.
Behind him stands Roger Federer, who finished with 157 ATP singles finals, from his first final at Marseille 2000 against
Marc Rosset to his last one at Basel 2019 against
Alex de Minaur.
Ivan Lendl is third with 145 finals reached: his first came at Brussels 1979 against
Balรกzs Tarรณczy, while his last title match came at Sydney 1994 against
Pete Sampras.
Novak Djokovic is the highest active player in the chase, currently listed at 144 ATP finals; his first final came at Amersfoort 2006, where he faced
Nicolรกs Massรบ, and every new final still changes his position in the historical race.
Rafael Nadal completes the top group with 131 ATP singles finals, a run that began at Auckland 2004 against
Dominik Hrbatรฝ and ended at Bรฅstad 2024 against
Nuno Borges.
In this record, the milestone is not only the number of titles won, but the repeated ability to survive an entire draw and reach the final Sunday: Connors set the ceiling at 165, Federer came closest at 157, and Djokovic remains the only player still able to add to his total.
